Who, really, needs the West Corridor?

The Forbes/Mullinax partnership has created a problem by hauling gravel.

Forbes has a gravel pit on Beckton Ranch of 45 acres and a 80 acre gravel pit, both pits access Big Goose Rd (HWY 331). Big Goose Rd becomes West Loucks Street.

Forbes owns a 30 year gravel permit for 1675 acre quarry. This pit is located on Upper Rd next to the county airport runway. This quarry permit, Q-22-002, requires Forbes to construct a private gravel haul road connecting to State HWY 331. This quarry is not in operation at this time. The quarry has 10 years to commence operations, once in operation, the pit has 30 years of operation.

The shortest haul route for, the 1675 acre quarry, would be a overpass off the north end of upper road across Big Goose Creek. This overpass would be west of West View Health Care Center and cross over Big Goose Rd then travel up Gillespie Draw. Once the overpass reaches Black Tooth Park, it could connect to West 5th Street. From W 5th St the corridor route could travel NW towards the old Mydland Dairy. From the the old dairy property crossing Soldier Creek, again, as an overpass up to Industrial Rd. This is the location of the Mullinax gravel yard. Next to Mullinax is Croell Inc. This concrete yard was sold to Croell by Mullinax.

It is apparent many businesses have a stake in the construction of the west corridor. Croell could even provide the concrete for the overpass.

I would reference C. M.Coolidge's "A Friend in Need", from his, "Dogs Playing Poker" paintings series. Truly a picture is worth a thousand words.
